Artist Information

Robert Longo, whose art was influenced by the mass media of his formative years, studied sculpture but found drawing to be a more fulfilling way to express himself through artistry. His series ‘Men in the Cities’ is considered to be one of his most important works, establishing a technique wherein he transformed photographs into drawings but in a manner that made them appear three-dimensional. The series, which featured his friends dressed nicely and dancing, would eventually grow to include 60 images. His later work shifted in focus from people and figures to other subjects like the American Flag and an image of Sigmund Freud’s home.
